Pray With Us

Leader: We have been brought together as sisters & brothers, let us offer evening worship our God. Peace be with you.

All:        And also with you.

Leader:  Lift up your hearts.

All:        We lift them up to the Lord.

Leader:  Let us give thanks to the God of Peace.

All:        We give thanks to the Father, Son & Holy Spirit, alleluia!

Incense is then lit. We sit.

Silently or aloud, as the week begins, we may like to place before the Lord any particular thing that we have planned during the week – or that you know is taking place – & ask for our prayer & God’s blessing.

Please join in the refrain of the Taize song ‘Surrexit Christus’

Surrexit Christus, alleluia! Cantate Domino, alleluia!

Please sing the antiphon and psalm as indicated.

Cantors: The Lord will send his mighty sceptre from Sion

And he will rule for ever, alleluia!

Cantors: The Lord’s revelation to my Master: sit on my right.

Your foes I will put beneath your feet.

All:         The Lord will wield from Sion your sceptre of power:

Rule in the midst of your foes.

Cantors:  A prince from the day of your birth on the holy mountains:

From the womb before the dawn I begot you.

All:          The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change,

You are a priest for ever, a priest like Melchizedek of old.

Cantors:  The Master standing at your right hand

Will shatter kings in the day of his wrath.

All:          He shall drink from the stream by the wayside

And therefore he shall lift up his head.

All:          Glory be to the Father and to the Son

                And to the Holy Spirit

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

                World without end, Amen .

All:          The Lord will send his mighty sceptre from Sion

And he will rule for ever, alleluia

After saying the antiphon, the psalm will be read as indicated.

All:         The earth trembled before the Lord, alleluia!

ReaderWe are slaves of a pitiless ruler, bowed down by an alien language.

All:         We cry to you, O Lord, in our distress & you rescue us by your servant Moses.

Reader:

We ourselves become your sanctuary, the people with whom you dwell.  You call us to live in your image even as the One who shows us your face.  Even nature responds with awe at your power in acts of redemption.  The sea & the river retreat in panic, the whole creation assists our rescue.  The mountains quake & the rocks splinter, the sheep & lambs quiver with fear.  Amazement grips us as the scene unfolds, this theatre which resounds with your presence.  Dance, O earth, at the appearance of God, turning your anguish to a cry of praise.  Your rocks are turned into pools of water, solid flint into a flowing fountain.  Nothing is fixed, nothing secure, when you lead us into freedom.  The Gods of nature crumble, & the noise of the powers is stilled.

All:

O God, your greatness is awesome, your incomprehensible grace in our rescue.  Our voices combine with those of the earth: we give you glory for ever. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.

The earth trembled before the Lord, alleluia!

Please sing the canticle with its antiphon as indicated.

Cantors:  The Lord is King, our God, the Almighty, Alleluia!

Cantors:  Alleluia, salvation and glory and honour and power belong to our God,

His judgments are true and just, alleluia!

All:          Alleluia, praise our God all you his servants,

You who fear him, small and great, alleluia!

Cantors:  Alleluia, the Lord our God, the Almighty reigns,

Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, alleluia!

All:          Alleluia, the marriage of the Lamb has come,

And his bride has made herself ready, alleluia!

All:           Glory be to the Father and to the Son,

                And to the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

                World without end, Amen.

All:          The Lord is King, our God, the Almighty,

                Alleluia!

Reading: 1 Cor 1:3-4

Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the merciful Father, the God from whom all help comes! He helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help those who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we have received ourselves from God.

Silent or spoken reflection ad lib.

Please stand and join in the Magnificat which will be sung to the tune of ‘Amazing Grace’ after we have said the Magnificat antiphon together.

Week 5:    Master, we have worked hard all night & have caught nothing; but if you say so, I will let down the nets.

Week 13:   The Son of Man came not to destroy souls but to save them.

Week 21:   Many will come from the east & from the west to take their places with Abraham & Isaac & Jacob in the kingdom of Heaven.

Week 29:   When the Son of Man comes, do you think he will find faith on earth?

My soul proclaims the Lord my God, my spirit sings his praise;

He looks on me, he lifts me up, and gladness fills my days.

All nations now will share my joy, His gifts he has outpoured;

His little ones he has made great; I magnify the Lord.

His mercy is for evermore; His name I praise again;

His strong right arm puts down the proud and raises lowly ones.

He fills the hungry with good things, the rich he sends away.

The promise made to Abraham fulfilled by him each day.

Magnificat, Magnificat, Magnificat, praise God;

Magnificat, Magnificat, Magnificat, praise God.

Repeat the Antiphon as above.

Intercessions:

Reader:   On this first day of the week, day of rest and recreation, day of resurrection, day of the Spirit’s power, we come to worship and adore the God who loves the world he has made ……. silence …..to the Lord of Earth and Heaven,

All:          We bring our joy and praise.

Reader:   We come in gratitude for life itself: for all the experiences of life which convey the Father’s love for us, and for all who have enriched and inspired us this last week. ……. silence ….. to the Lord of Earth and Heaven,

All:          We bring our joy and praise.

Reader:   We come to find Christ – the Father’s gift of love to a suffering and needy world – whose life is an inspiration, whose death has shown how deeply God cares, and whose Resurrection in unexpected joy, brings new life and new hope to a dying world. ……. silence ….. to the Lord of Earth and Heaven,

All:          We bring our joy and praise.

Reader:   We pray for people who have died today – for those who will die tonight and for those of our parishes and community whose anniversaries occur tomorrow, remembering especially:

Pause for people to add silently or aloud any further intentions they have.

Leader begins the Our Father.

Leader:   Lord our God, give us grace to serve you always with joy, because our full and lasting happiness is to make of our lives a constant service to others and to the author of all that is good.

We make our prayer through Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

All:          Amen.

Leader:    We pray together for each other:

All:          May you follow in the Lord’s way.  May you listen to the truth God speaks.  May you live the life God would have you live, & may the blessing of God the Father, God the Son, & God the Holy Spirit be with you tonight & always. Amen.
