Pray With Us

Leader:    In the silence of the stars, in the quiet of the hills, in the heaving of the sea –

All:          Speak, Lord.

Leader:    In the stillness of this room, in the calming of my mind, in the longing of my heart –

All:          Speak, Lord.

Leader:    In the voice of a friend, in the chatter of a child, in the words of a stranger, in this time of prayer –

All:          Speak, Lord, for your servants are listening.

Please join in the singing of the hymn.

He is Lord, he is Lord, he is risen from the dead & he is Lord.

Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

He is King, he is King, he is risen from the dead & he is King.

Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is King.

He is Love, he is Love, he is risen from the dead & he is Love.

Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Love.

Please say the psalm from side to side after the antiphon.

All:   Your sorrow will turn to joy, alleluia!

Side 1:   When God brought back the captives of Zion, we were like

those who dream. Then our mouths were filled with laughter

              and our tongues with rejoicing.

Side 2:  Then they said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done

great things for them.’ The Lord has done great things

for us; we are truly glad.

Side 1:   Restore our fortunes, Lord God, like the streams in the

Negeb! May those who sow in tears reap with songs of joy!

Side 2:  Those that go forth weeping, carrying seed for sowing,

shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing the sheaves

              with them.

All:        Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit

as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world

              without end, Amen.

All:         Your sorrow will turn to joy, alleluia!

We will listen to a sung version of psalm 126 (127),

(Talbot ‘Hiding Place’ Tr 4.)

Unless the Lord build the house, in vain do the laborers build.
Unless the Lord guard our city in the night

In vain does the watchman keep vigil.

CHORUS:
Come to Him, a living stone, rejected by men,
But approved, nonetheless, and precious in God’s sight.
Your cornerstone is Jesus.

You too are living stones built as a temple of the Spirit.
With apostles and prophets as the sure foundation
With Jesus as the cornerstone
CHORUS
If you build your house on the sand,

The rainstorms can wash you away.
If you build your house solid on the rock,

Your house will stand forever.
CHORUS
Unless the Lord build the house in vain do the laborers build.

Reading:       Hebrews 7 24-27

Jesus, because he remains for ever, can never lose his priesthood.  It follows then that his power to save is utterly certain, since he is living for ever to intercede for  all who come to God through him.  To suit us, the ideal high priest would have to be holy, innocent & uncontaminated, beyond the influence of sinners, & raised up above the Heavens; one who would not need to offer sacrifices every day, as the other high priests do for their own sins & then for those of the people, because he has done this once & for all by offering himself.

Leader:        The disciples rejoiced.  Alleluia, alleluia.

All:          The disciples rejoiced.  Alleluia, alleluia.

Leader:        They saw the Lord.

All:          The disciples rejoiced.   Alleluia, alleluia.

Leader:        Glory be to the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit

All:          The disciples rejoiced.  Alleluia, alleluia.

Please stand to sing the Magnificat as indicated.

Cantors:    All that the Father gives me will come to me,

And whoever comes to me, I shall not turn away, alleluia!

Side 1:      My being proclaims your greatness,

And my spirit finds joy in you, God my Saviour,

Side 2:    For you have looked upon me, your servant, in my lowliness;

All ages to come shall call me blessed.

Side 1:      God, you who are mighty, have done great things for me.

                Holy is your name.

Side 2:    Your mercy is from age to age

Towards those who fear you.

Side 1:      You have shown might with your arm

And confused the proud in their inmost thoughts.

Side 2:    You have deposed the mighty from their thrones

And raised the lowly to high places.

Side 1:      The hungry you have given every good thing

While the rich you have sent away empty.

Side 2:    You have upheld Israel, your servant,

Ever mindful of your mercy-

Side 1:      Even as you promised our ancestors;

Promised Abraham, Sarah, and their descendants for ever.

All: Give praise to the Father Almighty,

To his Son Jesus Christ our Lord,

To the Spirit who dwells in our hearts,

Both now and for ever, Amen.

All:          All that the Father gives me will come to me,

And whoever comes to me, I shall not turn away, alleluia!
