Pray With Us

Leader:  Christ is risen!

All:     And makes a home in me.

Leader:  I do not have to invite, implore, beg God to live in me.

All:     God is already there.

Leader: Within our vulnerable, wounded selves God is at home.

All:     Christ is risen & lives within us.

We will listen to the hymn, ‘Christ has no body now but yours’.

(Take This moment tr2).

(Refrain) Christ has no body now but yours,

No hands, no feet on earth but yours.

Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world.

Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good.

Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world.

Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes.

You are his body. (Refrain).

Christ has no body now but yours,

Please say this canticle as indicated:

All:   God’s majesty covers the heavens, the earth is filled with

        God’s praise, alleluia!

Side 1:      Let us give thanks to the Father who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

Side 2:    He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of his beloved son in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Side 1:      He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, for in him all things were created, in Heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.

Side 2:      All things were created through him and for him.

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Side 1:      He is the head of the body, the Church; he is the

beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in

                 everything he might be pre-eminent.

Side 2:    For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to

dwell, & through him to reconcile to himself all

things, whether on earth or in Heaven, making

peace by the blood of his cross.

All:  Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the

Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever

shall be, world without end, Amen.

All:        God’s majesty covers the heavens, the earth is

            filled with God’s praise, alleluia!

Please join in with psalm 138.  (Christ Be Our Light’ tr 5)

O God you search me and you know me.

All my thoughts lie open to your gaze.

When I walk or lie down you are before me,

Ever the maker and keeper of my days.

You know my resting and my rising,

You discern my purpose from afar,

And with love everlasting you besiege me,

In every moment of life or death you are.

Before a word is on my tongue Lord,

You have known its meaning through and through,

You are with me beyond my understanding,

God of my present, my past and future too.

Although your Spirit is upon me,

Still I search for shelter in your light.

There is nowhere on earth I can escape you,

Even the darkness is radiant in your sight.

For you created me and shaped me,

Gave me life within my mother’s womb

For the wonder of who I am I praise you:

Safe in your hands, all creation is made new.

The mystery of the Resurrection: If the heart has its reasons, & love enables us to recognise reality, lovers also know that they can never exhaust the truth of the one they love.  They know that it may be better to say too little than too much.  There is a time to fall silent.  Christ’s resurrection remains far more than the sum of any or all descriptions of it.  At some point we will find no more words to say.  Then we can do no more than pay silent homage to the awesome nature of this resurrection from the dead, the beginning of God’s new creation.

Pause to reflect

We will sing the Magnificat.

Cantors: God sent Jesus into the world not to condemn the world,

But so that the world might be saved, alleluia!

Side 1:      My being proclaims your greatness,

                And my spirit finds joy in you, God my Saviour;

Side 2:    For you have looked upon me, your servant, in my lowliness;

All ages to come shall call me blessed.

Side 1:      God, you who are mighty, have done great things for me:

                 Holy is your name.

Side 2:    Your mercy is from age to age

            Towards those who fear you.

Side 1:      You have shown might with your arm,

And confused the proud in their inmost thoughts.

Side 2:    You have deposed the mighty from their thrones,

And raised the lowly to high places.

Side 1:      The hungry you have given every good thing,

While the rich you have sent away empty.

Side 2:    You have upheld Israel, your servant,

            Ever mindful of your mercy.

Side 1:      Even as you promised our ancestors –

Promised Abraham, Sarah, and their descendants for ever.

All:   Glory be to the Father, & to the Son,

       And to the Holy Spirit;

As it was in the beginning, is now, & ever shall be,

       World without end, amen.

All:        God sent Jesus into the world not to condemn the world,

But so that the world might be saved, alleluia!
