Surrexit Christus, alleluia!

Cantate domino, alleluia!

Please sing the psalm & its antiphon as indicated.

Cantors: Our eyes rest on you, Lord,

              Awaiting your kindness, alleluia!

Side 1:         I gaze at the heavens

                   Searching for you, my God.

Side 2:      A slave watches his master’s hand,

              A servant girl, the hand of her mistress;

Side 1:         So our eyes rest on you, Lord,

                   Awaiting your kindness.

Side 2:      Have mercy, Lord, have mercy,

              We have swallowed enough scorn, stomached enough sneers:

Side 1:         The scoffing of the complainant,

                   The mocking of the proud.

All:   Glory be to the Father and to the Son,

       And to the Holy Spirit,

       As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

       World without end, Amen.

All:          Our eyes rest on you, Lord,

              Awaiting your kindness, alleluia!

Please say this psalm & its antiphon as indicated.

All:   The snare has been broken and we have escaped, alleluia!

Side 1:         Say it, Israel! If the Lord had not been with us, if the Lord had

                    not been for us, when our enemies rose against us, they would

                    have swallowed us in their blazing anger, & the raging waters

                    would have swept us away – rushing waters, thundering over us.

All:   Our help is the Lord, creator of earth & sky.

Side 2:        Blessed be the Lord for saving our flesh from their teeth, for

                   tearing the trapper’s net so we could flutter away like birds.

All:   Our help is the Lord, creator of earth & sky.

All:          Glory be to the Father & to the Son & to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now & ever shall be, world without end, Amen .

All:   The snare has been broken and we have escaped, alleluia!

Reading:  Thomas Merton & Daniel O’Leary. The True Self.

Then it was as if I suddenly saw the secret beauty of their hearts, the depths of their souls where neither sin nor desire nor self-knowledge can reach, the core of their reality, the person that each is in God’s eyes.

There is a part of you that has always said ‘Yes’ to God, that always is in complete oneness with the divine flow, a music in perfect pitch with the melody of heaven’s heart.  That is your divine DNA, your inner destiny, that absolute core that is always intimate with the heart of God.  All your life you have two companions vying for your attention – your big & beautiful self, your small & anxious self.  We have to make & re-make our choice.

Silent reflection.

Please stand to sing the Magnificat as indicated.

Cantors:  This is the work that God requires;

               Believe in the one whom God has sent, alleluia!

Side 1:         My being proclaims your greatness,

And my spirit finds joy in you, God my Saviour;

Side 2:     For you have looked upon me, your servant, in my lowliness:

All ages to come shall call me blessed.

Side 1:         God, you who are mighty, have done great things for me:

Holy is your name.

Side 2:     Your mercy is from age to age

Towards those who fear you.

Side 1:         You have shown might with your arm,

And confused the proud in their inmost thoughts.

Side 2:     You have deposed the mighty from their thrones,

And raised the lowly to high places.

Side 1:         The hungry you have given every good thing,

While the rich you have sent away empty.

Side 2:     You have upheld Israel, your servant,

Ever mindful of your mercy-

Side 1:         Even as you promised our ancestors,

Promised Abraham, Sarah, and their descendants for ever.

All:          Give praise to the Father Almighty

To his Son Jesus Christ our Lord

              To the Spirit who dwells in our hearts

Both now and for ever, Amen.

All:  This is the work that God requires;

      Believe in the one whom God has sent, alleluia!
