Please join in John Glynn’s setting of Jeremiah 9.

(May the Lord bless you. Tr 3.)

Alone I can do nothing, with you all things are mine,

The darkness used to trouble me, but now it’s filled with light.

And with your hand enfolding mine, the terrors all depart.

Your consolation calms my soul, your words speak to my heart.

Refrain: I know the plans I have in mind, it is the Lord who speaks,

For peace & not disaster, for a future full of hope.

My love for you will never fail, I can’t forget my own.

Be true to me as I to you, be never more alone.

To find the hidden treasure, I bought a costly field,

To clear the stones, to beat the briars, took more than human might,

And with the cross you’d laid on me, tucked deep into the earth

A spring of living water came, your spirit of rebirth.

In spite of fearful passion, in spite of selfish pride,

You are my only hope & joy, forgive my foolish ways

You long to let me search for you, to find your hiding place.

I want no longer to be free, but held in your embrace.

We pray the first part of psalm 26 & its antiphon as indicated.

All:                 The Lord is my light & my help whom shall I fear.

Reader:        The Lord is my light & my help; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; before whom shall I shrink? When evil-doers draw near to devour my flesh, it is they, my enemies & foes, who stumble & fall. Though an army encamp against me my heart would not fear. Though war break out against me even then would I trust. There is one thing I ask of the Lord, for this I long: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; to savour the sweetness of the Lord, to behold his temple. For there he keeps me safe in his tent in the day of evil. He hides me in the shelter of his tent, on a rock he sets me safe. And now my head shall be raised above my foes who surround me, And I shall offer within his tent a sacrifice of joy, I will sing & make music for the Lord.

All:   Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit

         as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world

        without end, Amen.

All:   The Lord is my light & my help whom shall I fear.

Please sing the second part of the psalm as indicated

Cantors: It is your face, O Lord, that I seek;

Hide not your face.

Side 1:   O Lord, hear my voice when I call, have mercy & answer.

Of you my heart has spoken: seek his face.

Side 2:   It is your face, O Lord, that I seek; hide not your face

              Dismiss not your servant in anger; you have been my help.

Side 1:   Do not abandon or forsake me, O God, my help!

Though father & mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.

Side 2:   Instruct me, Lord, in your way; on an even path lead me,

              When they lie in ambush protect me from my enemy’s greed.

Side 1:   False witnesses rise against me,

Breathing out fury.

Side 2:  I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.

              Hope in him, hold firm & take heart – hope in the Lord.

All:        Glory be to the Father and to the Son

             And to the Holy Spirit

             As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

             World without end, Amen.

All:       It is your face, O Lord, that I seek;

Hide not your face.

Reading:       Daniel O’Leary from ‘The Heavenly Habit’.

Too often we unwisely prejudge events & people at their face value.  Life

becomes more interesting to us & we become more interesting to other

people when we search below the negative superficialities of each day,

learning something from everything & acquiring more curious & creative

minds.  Developing ‘the Heavenly Habit’ of glimpsing the gold in the lead

of our shadows brings the most significant transformation – personal &

universal.  There is a crack in every darkness – that’s how the light gets in

& out.  And you need the darkness to discover the light.  It is called the

paradox of life.  We are all living in it.  And in there sometimes is what we

call happiness.

Leader:   God is her help; she will not be moved.

All:          God is her help; she will not be moved.

Leader:   The Lord is with her.

All:          God is her help; she will not be moved.

Leader:   Glory be to the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit

All:          God is her help; she will not be moved.

Pause for reflection.

Please stand to sing the Magnificat (Scottish Folk Melody) after saying the antiphon together.

All:  Jesus loved Martha & Mary her sister & Lazarus, her brother.

My soul is filled with joy as I sing to God my saviour;

He has looked upon his servant, he has visited his people.

Refrain And holy is his name through all generations!  Everlasting is

his mercy to the people he has chosen, & holy is his name.

I am lowly as a child but I know from this day forward

that my name will be remembered for all will call me blessed.

I proclaim the power of God; he does marvels for his servants;

Though he scatters the proud-hearted & destroys the might of

To the hungry he gives food, sends the rich away empty.

In his mercy he is mindful of the people he has chosen.

In his love he now fulfils what he promised to our fathers;

I will praise the Lord, my saviour, everlasting is his mercy.

is his mercy to the people he has chosen, & holy is his
