Pray With Us

Leader:   Tonight we are mindful of the cost of discipleship as we

reflect on the price Mary paid for her total giving of herself to her son.

All:         Blessed be Mary, Mother of Jesus, Our Lady of Sorrows.

Leader:   We are in God’s presence here & the presence of his mother

All:          Blessed be Mary, Mother of Jesus, Our Lady of

Sorrows & mother of the Risen Christ.

Please join in the hymn:

O Mother of almighty God, forever blest in all your ways,

Give us your own tranquillity, & strength & comfort in our days.

You are a strong & lovely tree, the fruit of which is purest gold,

Whose branches spread to shelter us, whose quiet leaves all peace enfold.

Pray for us now, & when we die, that we may live & ever praise

The Father, Son & Spirit blest in endless light & timeless days.

Cantors: Let us draw near to Jesus, high priest of the new covenant,

City of the living God.

Side 1:   I rejoiced when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’

And now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Side 2:  Jerusalem restored! The city united and whole!

              Here the tribes come up, the tribes of the Lord;

Side 1:  They come to praise the Lord’s name,

According to the decree given to Israel.

Side 2: Here are the tribunals of justice, the royal throne of David.

Pray for peace in Jerusalem: ‘Security to your houses!

Side 1:  Peace inside your city walls! Security to your towers!’

Since all are my neighbours and friends, I say, ‘Peace be with you!’

Side 2: Since the Lord our God lives here,

             I pray for your good.

All:        Glory be to the Father and to the Son,

             And to the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

            World without end, Amen.

All:       Let us draw near to Jesus, high priest of the new covenant,

            City of the living God.

Cantors:We have obtained salvation

Through the blood of Christ

Side 1:   Unless the Lord build the house,

They labour in vain who build it.

Side 2:  Unless the Lord guard the city,

In vain does the guard keep vigil.

Side 1:   It is in vain for you to rise early,

Or to put off your rest,

Side 2:  You that eat hard-earned bread,

For he gives to his beloved in sleep.

All:        Glory be to the Father and to the Son,

             And to the Holy Spirit;

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

             World without end, Amen.

All:        We have obtained salvation

             Through the blood of Christ

Reading: 2 Tim 2 10-12a

Therefore, I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.  Here is a trustworthy saying: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure we will also reign with him.  If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

Pause for personal reflection.

Leader: By the cross of her Lord stood Mary, all-holy, queen of Heaven & earth.

All:        By the cross of her Lord stood Mary, all-holy, queen of Heaven & earth.

Leader begins the Our Father……..

Leader:   God, our Father, when Jesus your Son was raised up on the cross,  Mary his mother stood there & suffered with him in her heart.  Grant that in union with her, the Church may share in the suffering of the people of our world & so be brought to the glory of his resurrection. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

All:         Amen

Leader:   As we prepare to leave & embrace the challenges of our lives & our world, let us ask for God’s blessing.

May God bless us with strength to seek justice.      All: Amen.

May God bless us with wisdom.                               All: Amen.

May God bless us with love to bring forth new life.  All: Amen.
