Please join in the singing of the hymn.
Refrain: The light of Christ has come into the world,
The light of Christ has come into the world.

We must all be born again to see the kingdom of God;
The water & the spirit bring new life in God’s love.

God gave up his only son out of love for the world
So that everyone who believes in him will live for ever.

The light of God has come to us so that we might have salvation,
From the darkness of our sins, we walk into glory with Christ Jesus.

The antiphon & Psalm 114 will be said as indicated.
All: The Lord saved my soul from the power of death, alleluia!
Reader 1: I love you, Lord God, because you have heard my voice, my voice and my supplications, because you have inclined your ear to me. Therefore I will call on you as long as I live. The cords of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered sorrow and anguish.
Reader 2: Then I called on your name, O God: ‘ I beseech you save my life!’ Gracious are you, my Lord, and righteous; you are full of compassion. You protect the simple hearted; when I was brought low, you saved me.
Reader 1: Be at rest once more, oh my soul, for the Lord God has been good to you. For you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death; my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. I walk before you, my God, in the land of the living. I believe even when I say, ‘I am completely crushed.’ In my dismay I declared, ‘No-one can be relied on.’
Reader 2: What return can I make to you, my God, for all your goodness to me? I will take up the cup of salvation.
Invoking the name of the Lord, I will pay what I vowed to the Lord. May the whole nation be present! Precious in your eyes is the death of your faithful. Lord God, I am your servant, your servant, born of a pious family; you have freed me from my bonds.
Reader 1: I will offer you the thanksgiving sacrifice, invoking your name. Lord God. I will walk in your presence in the land of the living. I will fulfil what I vowed to you in the presence of all the people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, Jerusalem.
All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as
it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without
end, Amen.
All: The Lord saved my soul from the power of death, alleluia!

Psalm 120 will be sung as indicated.

Side 2: My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven & earth.
Side 1: The Lord God does not let our footsteps slip!
Our guard does not sleep!
Side 2: The guardian of Israel does not slumber or sleep.
Your God guards you, shades you.
Side 1: With the Lord at your right hand
The sun cannot harm you by day, nor the moon at night.
Side 2: The Lord guards you from harm,
Protects your lives;
Side 1: The Lord God watches over your coming & going,
Now & for always.
All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son,
And to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen.
All: The Lord protects his people
As the apple of his eye, alleluia!

Reading: Richard Cartwright Austin.
Jesus did not come to rescue a handful of believers from this world. He came to renew creation, to restore humanity & nature to full communion with God…..In Christ redemption is environmental. The health of one related to the health of all.

Leader: The Holy Spirit is the advocate, alleluia, alleluia!
All: The Holy Spirit is the advocate, alleluia, alleluia!
Leader: The Spirit will teach you everything.
All: The Holy Spirit is the advocate, alleluia, alleluia!
Leader: Glory be to the Father & to the Son, & to the Holy Spirit.
All: The Holy Spirit is the advocate, alleluia, alleluia!

Please say the Magnificat as indicated.

All: Your Heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask
him, alleluia!
Side 1: My being proclaims your greatness, and my spirit finds joy in you, God my Saviour, for you have looked upon me, your servant, in my lowliness; all ages to come shall call me blessed.
Side 2: God, you who are mighty, have done great things for me:
holy is your name. Your mercy is from age to age towards
those who fear you.
Side 1: You have shown might with your arm and confused the proud
in their inmost thoughts. You have deposed the mighty from
their thrones and raised the lowly to high places.
Side 2: The hungry you have given every good thing, while the
rich you have sent away empty. You have upheld Israel,
your servant, ever mindful of your mercy- even as you
promised our ancestors, promised Abraham, Sarah, and
their descendants for ever.

All: Give praise to the Father Almighty, to his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, to the Spirit who dwells in our hearts, both now and for
ever, Amen .

All: Your Heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit

Leader: God, through the Resurrection & Ascension of your son, you have freed us from the power of darkness & have brought us to the kingdom of your love. All: Amen
Leader: May the light of lights overcome all darkness
All: And protect us from all perils this evening.
Leader: The peace of the Father of mercy be ours this night.

All: The deep peace of all peace be ours this night.
Leader: Each morning & evening of our lives.
All: For ever & evermore. Amen.

Novena to the Holy Spirit – Day 1

Lord, Holy Spirit,

you blow like the wind in a thousand paddocks.
Inside and outside the fences,

you blow where you wish to blow.

Lord, Holy Spirit,

you are the sun who shines on the little plant.
You warm him gently, you give him life,

you raise him up to become a tree with many leaves.

Lord, Holy Spirit,

you are the mother eagle with her young,

holding them in peace under your feathers.

On the highest mountain you have built your nest,
above the valley, above the storms of the world,
where no hunter ever comes.

Lord, Holy Spirit,

you are the bright cloud in whom we hide,

in whom we know already that the battle has been won.
You bring us to our Brother Jesus,

to rest our heads upon his shoulder.

Lord, Holy Spirit,

in the love of friends you are building a new house,
heaven is with us when you are with us.

You are singing your song in the hearts of the poor.
Guide us, wound us, heal us. Bring us to God. Come Holy Spirit.
