Pray With Us

Leader: On the cross Jesus offered himself & the universe to his father.

We, at the foot of the cross, join his prayer with ours.

We glory in your cross & marvel at your resurrection.

All:        For by virtue of the cross, joy has come into our world.

Please join in the hymn.

Refrain: Keep in mind that Jesus Christ has died for us

& is risen from the dead.

He is our saving Lord, He is joy for all ages.

If we die with the Lord, we shall live with the Lord. Refrain.

If we endure with the Lord, we shall reign with the Lord. Refrain.

In him all our sorrow, in him all our joy. Refrain.

In him hope of glory, in him all our love. Refrain.

We will sing the psalm as indicated.

Cantors:     This was love’s great deed that death should die,

When life itself was slain upon the tree.

Side 1:       The Lord’s revelation to my Master: sit on my right.

Your foes I will put beneath your feet .

Side 2:       The Lord will wield from Sion your sceptre of power:

Rule in the midst of your foes.

Side 1:       A prince from the day of your birth on the holy mountains:

From the womb before the dawn I begot you.

Side 2:      The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change,

You are a priest for ever , a priest like Melchizedek of old.

Side 1:       The Master standing at your right hand

Will shatter kings in the day of his wrath.

Side 2:       He shall drink from the stream by the wayside

And therefore he shall lift up his head.

All:            Glory be to the Father and to the Son,

                  And to the Holy Spirit

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

                 World without end, Amen .

All:           This was love’s great deed that death should die,

When life itself was slain upon the tree.

Please listen to or join in with John Talbot’s version of psalm 115.

Refrain: A blessing cup is a communion with the blood of the Lamb.(2)

What return shall I make to the Lord for all the good he has done for me?

I will take the cup of salvation, I will call upon the name of the Lord. (Refrain)

How precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his children.

Your servant am I, your handmaid’s son, & you have loosened my bonds. (Refrain)

I offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving, I will call upon the name of the Lord.

My vows to the Lord I will fulfil in the presence of the people of our God

(Refrain x 2) + the blood of our lord Jesus Christ who is the lamb of God.

Reading: from Julian of Norwich. Love was his meaning.

From the time that it was shown I desired often to know what was the Lord’s meaning.  And fifteen years later & more, I was answered in inward understanding, saying, ‘Would you know your Lord’s meaning in this? Learn it well.  Love was his meaning.  Who showed it you? Love.  What did he show you? Love.  Why did he show you? Love.  Hold fast to this, & you shall learn & know more about love, but you will never need to know or understand about anything else for ever & ever’.  Thus did I learn that love was our Lord’s meaning.

After a few moments of silent reflection, we are invited to respond aloud to the reading – maybe with an insight, or just the repetition of a single word or phrase that is important for you, maybe relating the text or part of it to something that has happened during the day or recently.

We will say the Magnificat & its antiphon as indicated.

All:        Hail, holy cross, standard of victory, lead us to the triumph of Christ

Jesus in the kingdom of heaven

Side 1:   I acclaim the greatness of the Lord, I delight in God, my saviour, who

regarded my humble state.  Truly from this day on all ages will call me blest.

Side 2:  For God, wonderful in power, has used that strength for me.

Holy, the name of the Lord!  whose mercy embraces the faithful,

              one generation to the next.

Side 1:  The mighty arm of God scatters the proud in their conceit, pulls

tyrants from their thrones, & raises up the humble.  The Lord fills

the starving & lets the rich go hungry.

Side 2:  God rescues lowly Israel, recalling the promise of mercy, the

promise made to our ancestors, to Abraham & Sarah’s heirs for ever.

All:        Glory be to the Father & to the Son & to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now & ever shall be, world

              without end, Amen .
